Common Problems & Solutions

Try these solutions if something isn't working as expected.

MergeGrid does not open

Make sure the extension is enabled in Chrome. Open chrome://extensions and check that MergeGrid is turned on. You can also try reopening the extension from the Chrome toolbar.

Keyboard controls are not working

Click inside the game window and try the Arrow Keys or W, A, S, and D keys again. Make sure another browser control or page element is not currently receiving keyboard input.

My progress is not showing

MergeGrid stores gameplay progress locally in Chrome storage. Clearing extension data or browser storage can remove previously saved progress.

I accidentally made a move

Use the Undo button to return to the previous board state when an undo state is available.

I want to start over

Select New Game to begin a fresh game board. Your previous game will no longer be the active board.

The game says Game Over

Game Over appears when there are no empty spaces and no valid adjacent tiles available to merge. Start a new game to play again.

How to Play MergeGrid

Follow these simple steps to start playing.

Open MergeGrid

Click the MergeGrid icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the game.

Move the Tiles

Use the Arrow Keys or W, A, S, and D to move all tiles in the selected direction.

Combine Numbers

Matching tiles combine when they meet. For example, two 2 tiles become one 4 tile.

Plan Your Moves

Keep enough space available on the board and think ahead before making your next move.

Use Undo

If you make a move you want to reverse, use Undo when a previous board state is available.

Reach 2048

Continue combining tiles and build larger numbers until you reach the 2048 tile.
